An education consultant agreement is used to hire a professional who specializes in providing guidance and educational planning for students and institutions. Also known as an educational consultant agreement, this binding agreement will outline the duties the consultant will be required to carry out for their client and what they will receive as compensation for their services. Definition of an Education Consultant
An education consultant is a professional hired to provide solutions for issues facing educational institutions, organizations, and families. The consultant will work one-on-one with students, with organizations providing educational products, or in an institution’s broader administrative role, improving policy and training staff. Often these individuals are former teachers or administrators who wish to step away from the classroom but still want to use their expertise to help create positive change in education.

An education consultant can be hired by parents to provide tailored solutions for their children who need guidance for their particular situations. The consultant will work with at-risk youth, athletes, international students, or special needs students that need customized solutions to optimize their education.

Schools and Institutions
Schools and post-secondary institutions will hire consultants to review, optimize, modernize, and overhaul school policies and programs to improve the student experience. Consultants will aid in training faculty, administrators, and board members on new policies and initiatives and ensure they meet current government expectations and standards.
Educational Organizations
Educational organizations are businesses and agencies that create educational products for students, teachers, and schools. The consultant would be hired to help ensure that the organization or agency is producing useful and modern textbooks, supplies, and the like.
How to Become an Education Consultant
Generally speaking, an education consultant will require at least a bachelor’s degree in education (or a related field). They should also have work experience in the field they wish to consult in and experience working with other educators and students. Candidates then may look at online job boards or with schools in their area for opportunities.
Education consultants may register with the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) or the American Institute for Certified Educational Planners to help find potential clients. The IECA requires a master’s degree or higher with three (3) years of education or administration experience, as well as evaluations and references. The American Institute for Certified Educational Planners also requires a master’s degree or higher, an application, references, and a thorough interview process.
