Mississippi Vehicle Registration (3 Steps)

1. Visit Tax Collector’s Office

The vehicle owner needs to submit the following documents to their local tax collector’s office[1]:

  • State-issued photo ID
  • Title – Assigned to the new owner.
  • Odometer disclosure
  • Bill of sale – Required if the title does not include the sales price.
  • Out-of-state registration – Required if the owner just moved to Mississippi.

2. Register Vehicle

After the registration documents have been submitted, the tax collector will fill out an Application for Certificate of Title. The owner must then pay a registration fee, title transfer fee, and applicable taxes.

  • Registration Deadlines – To avoid penalties, vehicles must be registered within the applicable time frames below:
    • 7 working days from the date of purchase[3]
    • 30 days of becoming a Mississippi resident[4]

3. Obtain Plates

Once all fees and taxes have been paid, the registration will be completed, the title transferred, and the owner will receive their new license plates.
