The Michigan move-in/move-out checklist is used both at the commencement and expiration of a rental agreement to report issues with the dwelling, appliances, and any other furnishings included in the rental. Tenants who are charged a security deposit must receive two (2) blank copies of the checklist upon the start of the lease term. The tenant will fill out the move-in portion of the checklist, listing all issues they come across during their inspection of the unit, and return one (1) copy to the landlord within seven (7) days following the lease commencement date (a shorter period may be agreed to by the parties). After the tenant vacates, the landlord will complete the remainder of the checklist to report the damages they claim were caused by the occupants.
