Company Policies
Employers generally have discretion when selecting which policies to have in place. They may choose to implement policies in response to new issues or as new situations arise.
Generally, signing a policy form is not legally binding. However, it may be helpful when issuing a disciplinary action to an employee to show that they have been informed of the company’s rules.
Equal Employment Opportunity
Certain rules, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Act, may apply in workplaces without being stated in a company’s policy. Employers may still include these protections in their manuals or policies to inform employees of their rights.
